Ecofilm mats are rated at 130 watts per
square metre (W/m²) output. The heating film is less than 1mm
thick.

It is extremely important to measure area correctly;
re check your measurements before attempting to fit the film.
If the film has been damaged in any way and it does not fit we will not accept it as a return.
Measure the room; avoiding all permanent
fixtures e.g. fixed units etc., this is important to avoid causing
possible damage to the floor due to 'thermal blocking'; this is when
the heat cannot radiate from that part of the floor because it is
being blocked by a solid object e.g. a fixed unit which results in localised
heat build up.
To minimise the number of connecting cables choose mats
to fill the longest legnth.
If in any doubt contact Discount Floor
Heating for advice.
This example shows a room with units that are to be permanently fixed
in place (e.g. a living room).
The floor size is: 6m x 4.5m; a total area of 27m². Allow
at least 50mm around perimeter.
This area can be filled with 4 mats of 1m x 6m (ES13-1060) and
1 mat of 300mm x 2.5m (ES13-325).
Trim the mats to required lenght (see cutting instructions).
Each Ecofilm mat has one live
and one neutral connection; where a
number of mats are required then it is better to use a suitably sized junction
box to house the connection block.
In this example 5 mats are required
to make up the area to be covered; this means ther are 5 negative
(neutral) connections and 5 positive (live) connections to be brought
together into one positive (live) connector block and one
negative (neutral) connector block; connecting the 5 mats in parallel as shown.
The thermostat sensor is best positioned where the floor will not be later covered
with e.g. furniture .

It is advised to use insulation to avoid heat loss to the sub floor;
resulting in poor floor heating performance.
Lay the insulation on the floor and tape the joints, lay the boards so that
where possible the joints are staggered.
Vapour barrier must be used over the finished Ecofilm mats prior to
covering them with wood/laminate in order to provide optimum moisture and
additional mechanical protection. Lay the vapour barrier on the
Ecoflim mats; overlapping any adjacent pieces by a minimum of
100mm and tape the joints.
The location of the thermostat is your
choice but it makes sense to locate it as near to the electricity
supply as possible and is normally in the room being heated.
Connect via a fused spur or use a dedicated supply with its own
RCD (consult your electrician). The thermostat sensor must be positioned in an area that will not
be later covered by e.g.
a mat or item of furniture; so measure where this will be
and cut a channel approximately 10mm x 10mm deep and 300mm long
in the insulation to locate the flexible floor probe conduit in.
The thermostat is rated at 16amps and will control a maximum heated
area of 3680 watts.

The black connecting wire can be cut as required once you have
established that you have enough to reach your supply, however never
cut
the film diagonally or through the carbon element (black stripes) under any circumstances.
You must leave a minimum of a 50mm gap from the
walls and any other fixed object.
You must never overlap mats.
Before you cut any mat make sure that you have ordered the correct
size as it can only be exchanged if the mat is still intact.
After laying the mat you can use an ohm meter to test the circuit;
the resistance should be as shown on the sizing guide in the maunufacturers
instructions.
Avoid excessive traffic over the mat prior to applying the floor
covering.
The final connection should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
The use of suitable protection boards will prevent any possible
damage during floor covering.
It is highly recommended that you connect your system via a fused spur (to isolate the system for
future maintenance) and/or a safety contact breaker (RCD); an electrician will
be able to advise you and MUST make the final connection.
The electrician should affix a suitable advisory warning notice
on the electricity distribution box and complete the attached certificate
which must be retained to serve as part of the guarantee requirement.
If adhesives have been used; allow at least
3 days for the adhesives to dry naturally before powering up your underfloor
heating. Check with your floor manufaturer. |
